The Jordaan district was originally founded in 1612 as a residence for the working class, providing a home for the majority of the city’s immigrant population. Nowadays, this attractive area is the most sought after neighbourhood in the centre for both residential and business properties, attracting a hip and trendy crowd.
Directly opposite the street is the stunning Westerkerk, a Protestant church built during the early 17th century, which houses the final resting place of Holland’s most illustrious artist, Rembrandt van Rijn. Next to the church lies the triangular and poignant Homomonument, which extends out into the calm waters.
