Staying close to the central station means that this is the right spot to explore Amsterdam and beyond. Take a tram, subway or bus to explore the city or take a train to Den Haag or Utrecht, both less than one hour away. But honestly, you don’t need public transport to explore the city. Walk to the left and you enter China Town and the Red Light district. Pick one of the many Asian restaurants or enjoy nightlife in and around the Red Light district. Make a right and you can walk alongside the water. Visit the impressive and completely renovated Dutch Naval museum where you will learn more about the Dutch as global traders. Walk to the left and then go straight on to the Damrak and the Dam Square. Or take a tram to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum to experience the Dutch paintings. When you have seen enough go to the Leidsche square and have a drink in one of the many pubs.
