The Plantage district lies just to the east of Amsterdam’s city centre. With its beautiful tree-lined streets and architecture it offers lots to see and do. Look out for the world-famous Artis zoo, one of the oldest zoos in Europe, the Hortus Botanicus (botanical gardens), historic monuments, parks and the numerous popular theatres and museums. Within walking distance from the city centre, it is also an oasis of calm all year round.
Although close to the centre, most visitors choose to take the tram to get there as it is just so quick and easy. From Central Station you need trams 9 and 14 which cross right through the district.Location - Area: Plantage District, Red Light District, Amstel, Rembrandt Square
