  • You will find the beautiful Old City Apartment II located in perhaps the prettiest district of Amsterdam in the very centre. The front of the building looks out on a charming little street with matching 19th century houses. The Herrengracht and Brouwersgracht canals are just a few seconds’ walk away. Lined with pretty house boats and large trees, at night time the canals are lit up beautifully by little lights under the bridges. This, Amsterdam’s famous Canal Belt area, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2010 as it is considered to be of great architectural and historical importance. Amazingly the characteristic leaning houses in the area narrowly missed being demolished altogether in the 1970s when many buildings had run into disrepair following the war and controversial plans were made to build a huge road to connect the city with outlying areas. Thankfully following many actual street battles with local residents, politicians and police the area was saved and the road was not built. Sadly much of the nearby Jewish district, the Waterlooplein, was destroyed already to make way for the Metro development.

If you would like to find out more about Amsterdam’s rich history then why not pay a visit to the extremely interesting Amsterdam Historical Museum, also now known simply as the Amsterdam Museum. It’s located helpfully only a few minutes’ walk from the apartment past Dam Square on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. The museum offers a unique insight on this incredible European capital. The story is told to you chronologically and spread over three floors of an impressive ancient building which once used to be the city’s orphanage. From religion, folklore and art to subcultures, entertainment and prostitution - the city’s amazing history is revealed in the most enlightening way. If you thought history was boring then this museum will change you mind!

Old City II is a pleasant home base for a family. The location can't be beat: a beautiful, tranquil lane a short walk from Central Station.

Fantastic stay in a superb location close to Central Station but away from the bustle and very near to Jordaan. The apartment is typical A'dam, bit shabby chic but very comfortable (bring eye patches as thin/pale blinds in the bedrooms). The team including tech guy (to fix Wifi) were really helpful. We had the most brilliant holiday, my kids now love A'dam as much as I do, and we'll definitely return.

Everything went very smoothly - checkin at Schipol Airport brilliant. Appartment in great neighbourhood and perfect. Stairs very steep so would not suit anyone with mobility problems.

Very easy to book. Checking in at the airport was stress free and the staff very helpful. We enjoyed our stay in the apartment and the children loved exploring Amsterdam life around this area.

Excellent apartment....5 minute walk from train station and five minute walk to town centre.

Very very steep stairs up to bedrooms. Small bathroom.

Excellent clean accommodation. Highly recommended. Its more of a small detached town house than an apartment.
