Located on the delightful Canal Belt area you could not imagine a more beautiful part of the city. The three main Amsterdam canal rings were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2010 as they are considered to be of great architectural and historical importance. It is quite incredible that the characteristic leaning houses in this area narrowly missed being demolished altogether in the 1970s when many buildings had run into disrepair following the war and controversial plans were made to build a huge road to connect the city with outlying areas. Of course the area was saved and the city has reaped the reward ever since. The Canal Belt remains one of the most popular parts of the city to be explored and photographed by tourists. There is really no need to worry about noise. The district remains a very peaceful place at night time as well as the day.
If you are in search of somewhere a bit more noisy then head to the nearby Leidse Square , one of the most popular entertainment areas of the city. Here you can see all kinds of street theatre and buskers. It is also the home of the famous Melkweg (Milky Way) music venue and a cinema. You will find cuisine from many different countries available in the narrow streets that run east from the square. In the summer time the square is filled with tables, chairs and giant umbrellas for people to eat outside making it an attractive hub of activity for visitors and locals like.
If you would like to try some typical Dutch cuisine then why not take a walk along the Prinsengracht from the apartment up to the Rozengracht. You will find Moeders Restaurant on the left hand side at number 251. ‘Moeders’ is the Dutch word for ‘mothers’ and since opening 20 years ago the owners have encouraged visitors to bring along a photo of their mothers to be stuck up on the walls of the restaurant. Covering the walls are thousands of framed and unframed pictures of visitors mums. Why not bring a photo of your own mother to add to the collection. The environment is cosy, warm and inviting. Open 7 days a week the restaurant there’s even a lovely sunny terrace from May until September. Be sure to bring along your mother on her birthday as Moeders have a little treat in store for her!
You will find excellent tram and bus links nearby, taking you to and from Central Station in a matter of minutes making it ideal for travellers with lots of luggage.Location - Area: Canal Belt, Dam Square, Vondelpark, Leidse Square, Museum Square
