Paint the city pink and prepare to party at Amsterdam’s infamous annual Lesbian and Gay Pride event which happens annually on the first weekend in August.
Amsterdam’s China Town is well known for its impressive offer of exotic eateries and for being home to an incredibly beautiful Buddhist temple, but its fame is also given by the presence, in the suggestive Zeedijk, of a number of gay and gay-friendly venues.
The Amstel’s gay scene is surprisingly entertaining and surely an enjoyable alternative to the more mainstream gay areas of Amsterdam. And a wonderful sight on the city river will certainly touch the more romantic ones.
In a respectful and tolerant city like Amsterdam, many clubs and bars are open to an eclectic mixed crowd, making this place in Europe the preferred destination for many gay men and women. There are few “lesbian bars” in town and probably the Saarein is the one you cannot miss.
Enough about museums, canals, boat-trips and parks. It’s getting dark and it’s time for some drinks and 4/4 beats. Put on your heels and dive into Amsterdam’s fervent nightlife. The Reguliersdwarsstraat is the heart of the Dutch GLBT community, with an enviable history of its very own.
The 16th edition of Amsterdam’s exceptional LGBT film festival, known as Roze Filmdagen, opens at the spectacular Eye Film Institute on the 13th of March 2013 and continues for the next eleven days at the equally charismatic Ketelhuis, impressing audiences with a stunning collection of classics from the inspiring world of gay cinema.
