This apartment is ideally located within the popular Jordaan district of Amsterdam, a neighbourhood renowned for its chic boutiques, delightful cafes and fine dining establishments, many of which can be found along the nearby ‘9 Streets’. The area was formed in the 1600s to ease the congestion of the ever expanding city. However, it soon became a poor and overcrowded area, filled with slums. In the 1970s the Jordaan underwent a much needed transformation, which attracted a new generation of residents and resulted in the stylish and fashionable district that it is today.
Many of the city’s must see sights and attractions can be found within the Jordaan, including the remarkable Anne Frank House Museum, which is situated just a short walk away from the apartment. Positioned along the banks of the majestic Prinsengracht Canal, the house is regarded as one of the most visited attractions in Amsterdam, welcoming visitors from across the globe. It was here, within the building’s secret annex, that Anne Frank and her Jewish family concealed themselves from the Nazis during World War II and is where Anne wrote her famous diary.
