Come and stay at the 2-bedroom Saturnus Houseboat Apartment Amsterdam for a truly unique and enchanting holiday experience in the heart of this historical city for up to 4 guests.
Banish any old ideas of dark and cramped living quarters – this stunning holiday home is not only bright, thanks to the ceiling skylights and portholes but also surprisingly spacious. The décor is creamy white with contemporary fittings including an amazing kitchen that is no less functional than any on dry land. You will find a dining table and chairs where you can enjoy your home cooked meals and a big comfy sofa and flat screen TV for relaxing together. The two bedrooms are simply decorated with double beds and good storage furniture built in for all your belongings. An impressive wood panelled bathroom boasts not only a bath and sleek designer sink but also a stylish shower cubicle and toilet. The roof of the boat incorporates a sitting area where you can enjoy a bottle of wine with your guests whilst watching the entertaining daily activities on the water.
The beautiful Saturnus Houseboat Apartment Amsterdam is located only a short walk away from Central Station and is moored along one of the city’s prettiest canals close to Nieuwmarkt. This is the oldest part of the city centre. On the cobbled plaza here you will find daily markets selling anything from antiques, handicrafts, books and stamps to local organic farmers’ produce. The castle-like building that stands on the square is known as de Waag and now houses a restaurant. This was was once the site of public executions including the occasional guillotine as well as the traditional rope gallows.
Just across from the houseboat is Cafe De Sluyswacht where you can grab a hot chocolate or a cool Dutch beer. This famously wonky building on nearby Jodenbreestraat seems to constantly attract the attention of passing photographers. Inside the striking 17th century lock-keeper’s cottage it is snugly and warm in the winter months and sells reasonably priced drinks all year round. Meanwhile in the warmer months you might prefer to sit out on the charming terrace that overlooks your houseboat apartment.
On Sint Antoniesbreestraat, just a few minutes away you will find a charming toy shop called Knuffels. You can’t miss the crazy window display featuring cuddly toys and gadgets bouncing up and down and decorative spinning wind mills. Inside you will find more of the same, perfect for that special toy or gift for young loved ones back home. Parked outside is possibly Amsterdam’s most famous decorated bicycle which is also something of a magnet for photographers.
For more photo opportunities cross the road see to the famous Rembrandt House Museum and the wonderfully eccentric Waterlooplein Flea Market that lies just behind. This is surly the best place for unusual photo opportunities and a great place to pick up some unique souvenirs of your trip to Amsterdam.
