This fantastic holiday apartment boasts an equally stunning location along one of the city’s prettiest canals in the famous Canal Belt area of Amsterdam. This instantly recognisable neighbourhood with its tall wonky buildings and pretty houseboats bobbing at the water’s edge has come to symbolise Amsterdam to many millions of people around the world. The apartment is just a few minutes away from the city’s main cultural quarter and the premier parkland area, the Vondelpark. The latter measures an incredible one mile long and is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic or a gentle bicycle ride. You can hire bikes at lots of places around the city centre and it’s a great way to see the city. The park is extremely popular with visitors and locals throughout the year and sees a footfall of nearly 10 million people annually. You will find a choice of three excellent café bars scattered around the park. Arguably the prettiest is the Blue Tea House which is situated at the heart of the park and boasts a circular art deco style featuring an upper deck with comfy swing seats in the summer time. This is the perfect place to enjoy a cool Dutch beer or a yummy hot chocolate and a bite to eat. The park is also home to some unexpected wildlife. A huge flock of wild green parrots has taken up residence here in recent years and can be seen swooping through the air catching insects and squawking loudly particularly during the early evening time. A stroll through this magnificent beautiful parkland will reward you with an opportunity to witness a real cross section of Amsterdam enjoying the outdoors together.
For some cultural stimulation pop along to the nearby Museum Square, known locally as Museumplein. Here you can explore the rich Dutch artefacts of the Rijksmuseum or call in at the Van Gogh Museum and see the great master’s revealing self-portraits. Also located in the square is the glittering Diamond Museum as well as the newly reopened Stedelijk, the city’s impressive art gallery dedicated to 20th century artists including Warhol, Matisse, Lichtenstein and Picasso.
Let your hair down at the nearby Leidseplein entertainment area. Here you can take in a show, classical concert, gig, movie, stand-up comedy show or theatrical performances at the many excellent venues around the plaza. It’s also a great place to enjoy a bite to eat under the large umbrellas.
