Authentic Houseboat Apartment Amsterdam

Your short stay just got interesting thanks to this fabulous Amsterdam houseboat apartment in the Western Dockland near the IJ.

It does not get any more authentic than staying on a houseboat that floats on Amsterdam’s famous waters. Forget the standard apartments and go for maybe even a once in a lifetime opportunity to sleep on a boat, but a wonderfully decorated one too. Its interior reflects a beautiful home with cosy furniture, decorative items and a stylish modern kitchen, and also includes a covered terrace with a large cushioned bench and windows all around with fantastic views of the harbour. There are other great homely touches too such as the rocking chair next to a small glass cabinet with a collection of cameras, the wall paintings, a colourful rug, lamps and a large plant. You will notice that there are windows throughout the houseboat apartment, including a rooftop one above the kitchen and this makes it that much more refreshing and inviting. The bathroom is also a wonderful modern room with its tiled shower unit that features mosaic tiles around the glass door. There is plenty of room for a comfortable night’s sleep too.

Location

You can find this unique Amsterdam apartment on the harbour of the old Western Docklands. This makes for a relaxing short stay in the city centre, away from the noisy crowds but close enough to a lot of the action by bus or on foot. On the eastern side of the harbour is the IJ Lake, which is also known for being Amsterdam’s waterfront. As you stand by the IJ and look a little to the right you will notice an eye-catching building just on the other side of the lake and that is the EYE Film Institute; the annual King’s Day royal cruise ends at the film institute where the king and queen meet other notable members of the royal family and key Dutch figures. About a ten minute walk away are the picture perfect Brouwersgracht canal and the trendy Jordaan district. As you walk through the Jordaan you will come across small art galleries, shops and quaint cafes. To get to other parts of the city use the bus station near the apartment to get to Central Station and from there catch trams, trains and metros.
