You will find the Congress Centre Apartment B6 just a 7 minute tram ride south of the old city centre in the Ijselbuurt district almost alongside the River Amstel.   You will find Amstel Station just across the adjacent Berlagebrug Bridge. From here you can catch buses, trams or the train into the centre taking only minutes. You may also choose to walk into town by following the Amstel north. It certainly makes a lovely walk which takes around 25 minutes. Look out for the Magere Brug or Skinny Bridge on the way. This charming little river crossing was made famous in the 1971 James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever.

Another transport alternative is to hire bicycles. Travelling on two wheels in the Netherlands is considerably safer than in almost any other European country. 99.9% of all major roads have dedicated cycle lanes making it extremely easy to get around. You will find it is often quicker than using public transport and it is even healthier too.

One of the most popular visitor attractions in the city is Artis Zoo. Just an 8 minute walk away, this excellent zoo is not only one of the oldest zoos in Europe but it also boasts one of the most successful animal breeding programmes. All the usual popular animals are here including tigers, giraffes and monkeys. There is even a small petting area with animals native to Holland including hens, goats and sheep. Here you can interact with the animals and feed them. Don’t miss the amazing and enchanting butterfly house where you can walk amongst thousands of butterflies. If you stand very still they are happy to even land on you.

If you are visiting the city to attend a major conference or exhibition then it is likely you will visit the famous Amsterdam RAI centre. Travelling to the centre from the apartment can take only 10 minutes by tram.
