There are over 60 museums to explore in Amsterdam and most are in the very centre of the city. The most visited has to be the Anne Frank House Museum situated at the northern end of the Prinsengracht. You can learn about Anne and her family and friends’ lives in the tiny rooftop annexe where they hid form the Nazi regime during the war. You are able to climb through the secret doorway into their hide-away as well as see Anne’s actual diary and notes. The museum offers an insight into the history of ‘tolerance’ around the world and encourages visitors to consider their own actions in the future. An enlightening, moving and thought provoking experience for visitors of all ages. Since the museum is extremely popular all year round it is advisable to get there as early as possible in order to avoid the extremely long queues that occur particularly in the summer months.
