Spacious, chic and comfortably furnished, the 1-bedroom Jordaan Apartment makes the ideal base for up to 4 guests visiting Amsterdam.
This stunning apartment is bright and airy thanks to its large windows which also provide views over the idyllic street setting below. The décor is creamy white featuring a mixture of modern and new continental furnishings. Sleek wooden floorboards create a real sense of space and the walls are adorned with attractive art works. Kick off your shoes and make yourself at home on the large comfy sofa in the living area which also converts into a double bed for two of your guests. From here you can enjoy the flat screen TV also provided for everyone’s in-house entertainment. Towards the rear of the room lies the dining area with an elegant table and chairs. Head through the doorway to discover a mauve tiled kitchen which is fully fitted with all the equipment you could possibly need for preparing your favourite recipes from home. The private bedroom is simply decorated to ensure a good night’s restful sleep. You will find a comfortable double bed with attractive bed side lights. The apartment also features a pretty blue bathroom equipped with a shower, bath, toilet and sink. This beautiful holiday home makes the perfect alternative to hiring dull hotel rooms in the city and is of course so much more personal.
Located, as the name would suggest, in the city’s pretty Jordaan district, the apartment boasts the perfect setting for accessing most of Amsterdam’s most popular visitor attractions with ease. The Jordaan itself was created in the 1600s as housing provision for the working classes of the city. It later became massively overpopulated and fell into disrepair. Even as recently as the 1970s it was fairly unrecognisable and some of the most dilapidated buildings were planned for demolition. Following major public protests it was decided to restore the buildings as much as possible. Today the district has become one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in the Netherlands in which to live.
Be sure to explore the Canal Belt district that runs alongside the Jordaan. Made up of four great canals that drape around the oldest part of the city like an ornate necklace, they possess an incredibly charming ambience and are delightful to wander around during the day and night time. In the evenings the little bridges are lit up by fairy lights, prettily reflecting in the water.
Just a short walk away lies the most famous address in the Netherlands and the most visited museum – 263 Prinsengracht, the Anne Frank House Museum. Here you can learn about Anne and her family and friends’ difficult lives in the tiny rooftop annexe where they hid from the Nazi regime during the war. You are able to climb through the secret doorway into their hide-away as well as see Anne’s actual diary and notes. The museum offers an insight into the history of ‘tolerance’ around the world and encourages visitors to consider their own actions in the future. This extremely enlightening, moving and thought provoking experience is recommended for visitors of all ages. Get there as early as possible to avoid the huge queues that occur later in the mornings daily or book ahead on line for a specific time slot.
Getting to Central Station from the apartment is very easy. Head south to Westermarkt and hop on any of the trams heading towards Dam Square along the Raadhuisstraat. The journey takes around 11 minutes, depending on traffic.
