Location

Once upon a time in the not so distant past the Jordaan district was known as one of the most deprived and overcrowded districts in the city. Today however its fortunes have been turned around quite astonishingly. Indeed it remains one of the most sought after districts in the country with high end prices to match. This is not so surprising since it is also one of the prettiest of all city neighbourhoods. The parallel streets are famous for their handsome architecture and there is definitely something of a neighbourhood competitiveness with regard to the many flowering window boxes. You will often see ivy or even vines climbing around door frames, balconies and even across the street via the telephone cables.   Central Station is very easy to get to from here as you can simply hop on a tram on your doorstep. The city’s famous Canal Belt district, a network of four great canals which loop around the city centre is just minutes away on foot. Here you will find exquisite 16th and 17th century architecture, pretty house boasts and some unexpected wildlife. It is so peaceful that it is easy to forget that you are in the heart of one of Europe’s most densely populated cities. Check out the small streets that link each of the canals, there are nine of them in total and they’re jam packed with lots of delightful boutiques, eateries and gift shops.   The apartment is also only a short walk away from the Westerpark. We’d certainly recommend hiring bicycles and exploring the area at your own leisure. There are several cafes in the park as well as a small cinema which shows art house films upon occasion. The area used to be an old gasworks which makes it a very interesting environment to explore. Trust us, it’s so much prettier than it may sound!
