Since you’ll be staying in one of the most exciting districts of the city, the Latin Quarter, as the locals tend to call it, known for its multicultural atmosphere and the overall mood of genuine friendliness in the air, you might wish to ‘go local’ and rent a bike to explore the city. After all, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, so hop on your bicycle and use the many available bike lanes to explore the surroundings; with two wheels at your disposal you are bound to reach all the spots located a bit further, like the fantastic Museumplein to the west, the wonderful Oosterpark to the east, the fragrant Flower Market to the north in no time. Alternatively, you may also rent a pedal boat and admire the city from a totally different perspective!
Still, before deciding on a longer outing it might be wise to explore the direct vicinities and there actually is quite much to discover. Apart from the range of fantastic eating establishments, cafés and coffee shops (Aan de Amstel, Cafe Sarphaat, Bazar Amsterdam, De Pijp or Perry’s Exotisch Food, to name a few), you have an incredible opportunity to visit the Heineken Experience museum, located a bit to the north, just behind the Marie Heinekenplein (a great spot for a night out) and past the lively Albert Cuypmarkt – another place worth a visit if you’re looking for less usual goods of exceptional quality.
If you’re there to chill, however, then you couldn’t be in a better place – the direct neighbourhood with the tranquil Sarphatipark is just for you; the abundance of stimulating green spaces, the big and soothing lake in the centre and the overall atmosphere of peace makes it really easy to recharge one’s batteries.
