Spacious, elegant and beautifully designed, the outstanding 5-bedroom apartment provides a truly luxurious holiday experience in the heart of Amsterdam for up to 8 guests.
Housed within a beautiful authentic 19th century canal side building, the apartment boasts lots of period features reminding you of its age. Confident exposed wooden ceiling beams strike a warm tone above your head whilst large windows provide a wonderful view of the canal below. A muted colour scheme creates a sophisticated yet welcoming ambience.
The apartment is spread across four floors of the building. Enter at ground level then climb the stairs to discover the stylish open plan kitchen which is fully fitted with everything you need to prepare your own meals during your stay. Enjoy them served up at the elegant dining table and eight chairs alongside. Head upstairs again to find the stunning living area and relax with your guests on the large creamy sofa and enjoy the flat screen TV provided. You will also find one of the bedrooms located on this floor, a bathroom with shower and bath as well as a toilet next door. Two more bedrooms can be found on the next floor with one featuring access to a wonderful private balcony. At the very top of the building in the eves you find the final bedroom which is particularly romantic since the walls are sloped with the shape of the roof. This top floor also features the original huge wooden wheel that was used for hauling produce from the ground up into the building when it was a warehouse in a former life. All the rooms are decorated in soothing creamy colours and feature a combination of double and single beds. You will also find flat screen TVs in each bedroom. The many international channels available are sure to keep everyone entertained.
This delightful holiday home is positioned in the heart of the city close to all the main attractions making it the perfect alternative to hiring dull traditional hotel suites in the city.
Please note that due to the apartment’s steep stairs it may not be suitable for elderly or very young guests.
The apartment can be found located in the very centre of Amsterdam alongside one of the four great canals that loop around the old heart of the city. You will find the infamous floating Flower Market on your doorstep. Here you can marvel at the huge selection of unusual and exotic plants and bulbs on sale. Why not purchase authentic Dutch tulip bulbs? You can even arrange to have them sent to a loved one back home as a unique souvenir of your visit. Just a short walk along the road will bring you to the Rembrandtplein, one of the most popular entertainment areas in the city. Here you can choose from the many pubs, bars, coffeeshops and nightclubs for an evening’s entertainment. In the day time you can enjoy a meal outside under the giant umbrellas. This is a great place for people watching. In the centre of the square a giant statue of Rembrandt himself stands, perusing the activities going on beneath his nose. The plaza itself is often transformed into various structures throughout the year including a dance area at the annual Gay Pride event and an ice skating rink in the winter months.
Just a moment’s walk away stands possibly one of the world’s most beautiful picture houses. The magnificent Art Deco styled Tuschinski Cinema is certainly worth visiting if only just to check out the opulent foyer area. Purchase tickets to see a film in the 2000-seater auditorium and enjoy watching a blockbuster the way movies were once intended. This is of course where all the country’s film premieres are screened so look out for celebrities on your way past.
The infamous Red Light District is just a short walk away as well as Dam Square. Getting to and from Central Station is extremely easy since you can hop on any tram at nearby Koningsplein, just a few seconds’ walk away. The journey takes around 8 minutes, depending on traffic.
We are four friends who stayed in the Grand Canal house for a week last May. We can absolutely recommend this rental! The central address (flower market) and the very charming and roomy house itself were perfect and we enjoyed \"coming home\" after a long day of museum visits and sightseeing! Supermarkets and other shops right around the corner - The house was very clean, large bedrooms and a lot of space for sitting down comfortably. The Short Stay Group people were very helpful - at the airport as well as at the town office. It does mention in the description that the house is difficult for elderly people because of the stairs. We are all elderly - but if you are in allright shape it is not a problem (apart from the fifth bedroom on top - a very nice room but the way up can hardly be called a staircase...; however, it is possible).
