Pink Film Festival Amsterdam

Pink Film Festival Amsterdam

2017 Festival Information coming soon.

The Pink Film Days is the Amsterdam Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, and will offer a lot of premieres of the best of recent gay films. Both popular gay films and smaller, alternative, movies are dished out screened at the event. The films have in common that they are as diverse as the gay community itself. In other words you will find great movies if you look for them.

The Pink Film Days (which translates as Roze Filmdagen in Dutch) is organised by Stichting Pink Media and aims to give independent filmmakers a platform through which to show films with a gay context to a broader audience.

The film festival has been an annually recurring event in Amsterdam’s gay and lesbian cultural landscape since 1996. The festival is respected in the cultural scene of Amsterdam for its top draw programming, which has earned it an excellent reputation among both audiences, festivals abroad and the filmmaking industry.

This year, there will be 118 movies on show, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. The film festival includes more shorts than ever this year, from as many as 38 countries.

“Despite the financial crisis, which also leaves its traces in the queer film industry, many films of interest to our audience are produced. It is a pity that only a very small percentage reaches cinemas or the television,” the organisers of the festival write. “We present films in which the community can recognise itself; in LGBT related stories and characters of both romantic comedies, confronting documentaries and everything that’s in between.”

The majority of the films are shown in the Ketelhuis Cinema and MC Theater at the Westergasfabriek. Both venues are easy to get to, by public transport or by foot, from all of Amsterdam Apartment’s rental apartments. Head to the Roze Filmdagen website for the full programme, venue details and tickets.
