Delightfully located along one of the city’s most famous great waterways in the heart of Amsterdam, the Herengracht Canal Apartment provides comfortable accommodation for up to 4 people.
Step inside this marvellous 19th century canal house and be wowed by the beautiful sense of space. The apartment has been recently renovated in a sensitive manner to incorporate many of its original architectural features including some extremely handsome wooden ceiling beams. Tall windows allow lots of natural light and wooden floorboards run throughout. You can prepare all your own favourite recipes from home in the fully fitted kitchen here. Enjoy them together around the rather elegant dining table and chairs. There are two contemporary sofas that easily convert into two beds for two of your guests at night time. Kick off your shoes and get comfortable whilst you enjoy the flat screen TV installed with lots of international channels. For partial privacy, a sleek partition divides the living area from the sleeping area with a comfortable double bed provided. The apartment also features a bathroom fitted with a sink, toilet and shower. This outstanding central holiday home makes the ideal alternative to renting stuffy hotel rooms for all your guests.
You will find the beautiful Herengracht Canal Apartment located in the very beating heart of Amsterdam just 7 minutes’ walk from Dam Square itself. Situated along one of the prettiest canals in the city, the area is known as the Canal Belt and is made up of four great waterways that elegantly drape around the city centre like a necklace. You will be absolutely charmed by the fairy-tale architecture, pretty bridges that light up at night time and the delightful houseboats at the water’s edge. It is quite shocking to learn that a large section of this district was planned for demolition in the 1970s to make way for a new access road for the city. Following major protests, campaigning and actual street battles the plans were thankfully scrapped. More recently the entire city centre was added to the UNESCO list of protected world structures to secure it for future generations to enjoy.
Just east of the apartment lies the famous floating Flower Market. Built on buoyant platforms on the edge of the Singel canal, it really does float on the water. Here you will find a wealth of unusual plants and bulbs to admire and purchase. The stall holders will happily send authentic Dutch tulip bulbs back home to loved ones as a unique gift from your holiday.
A little further down the road is the fabulous Tuschinski cinema. This is surely one of the most magnificent picture houses in the world. Its stunning Art Deco design on the outside is no less impressive than the gorgeous interior. Take a peep at the foyer where you will find an incredible red and green illuminated ceiling. This is where all the Dutch film premieres are held so look out for celebrities on your way past.
The apartment is very good value for money and the double bed/sofa beds are extremely comfortable. It's quite spacious and the apartment owner is very sincere and friendly. I have absolutely no complaints about this place and would certainly stay there again.Nonso - Date: 09-10-2013
