Jordaan BnB Studio Amsterdam

Located in the prettiest district of the city, the Jordaan B&B studio apartment makes the ideal holiday home for up to 2 people.

Located on the first floor of a pretty 19th century building, this absolutely charming apartment oozes comfort and style. The walls are cool and creamy with chic grey painted floor boards beneath your feet and authentic exposed ceiling joists above your head. Everything here is designed with your comfort in mind. Kick off your shoes and get comfortable on the chunky sofa after a long day out exploring the city with your guest. From here you can also enjoy the flat screen TV provided for your entertainment. The sofa also converts easily into a double bed for one of your guests. You can prepare you own simple meals and snacks in the stylish kitchen area situated at one side of the apartment. There’s a table and chairs for enjoying your culinary creations together comfortably. There are no stairs to climb to bed - you will find the extra-comfy double bed at one end of the room as well as a wardrobe and pretty bed side lighting. The apartment has its own private bathroom fitted with a toilet, sink and shower.

Location

The Jordaan B&B apartment can be found, as the name suggests, in the central Jordaan district of the city. It is located at the north of the city just west of Central Station, taking around 10 minutes to reach on foot. Originally this beautiful waterside district was a working-class neighbourhood but since the 1960s it has become one of the most expensive locations in the Netherlands. You will find lots of art galleries, curiosity shops, laid back cafes and all kinds of international restaurants here today. The name Jordaan is believed to originate from the French word Jardin meaning garden. Indeed most of the street names in the area relate to trees and flowers. Another theory is that the large Prinsengracht Canal that runs alongside was once nicknamed Jordaan – the Dutch name for the River Jordan. Either way this is certainly one of the prettiest neighbourhoods in town.

If you love street markets then be sure to check out the local Noordemarkt which hosts a particularly interesting second hand and antique market even on Mondays.

The Jordaan is home to possibly the most famous address in the Netherlands, 263 Prinsengracht which is now Holland’s most visited museum, the Anne Frank House. Here you can learn about Anne and her family and friends’ lives in the tiny rooftop annexe where they hid from the Nazi regime during the war until their unfortunate discovery. You are able to climb through the secret doorway into their hide-away as well as see Anne’s actual diary and notes. The museum offers an insight into the history of ‘tolerance’ around the world and encourages visitors to consider their own actions in the future. The museum offers an enlightening, moving and thought-provoking experience for visitors of all ages. Since the museum is extremely popular all year round you are advised to get there as early as possible in order to avoid the extremely long queues that occur particularly in the summer months.

It's a very nice apartment in a wonderful location. The steps were extremely steep - but it was worth the climb. The apartment is located in an old (over 400 years old) building full of characters. It is literally in the heart of Noordemarkt. We were able to shop for fresh fruits from farmer's market on Saturday and various interesting stuff all other days (closed on Sunday). We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this apartment!
