Make your dreams of living on a beautiful Amsterdam canal houseboat a reality at the luxurious 2-bedroom Montelbaan Houseboat Apartment. It’s the most unique of holiday homes in the city for up to 4 guests.
Lit by large skylights and side windows, this bright 100 sqm houseboat offers plenty of room for everyone. You will find a creamy décor with lots of attractive wood panelling on the floor, ceiling and some walls. The comfortable living room has a large sofa and chairs where you can relax with your guests. You may prefer to hop up into the hammock that hangs across the room for a gentle afternoon snooze. A flat screen TV is also provided to keep everyone entertained with the many international channels available. Prepare your favourite meals from home in the surprising fully fitted kitchen and enjoy them together at the dining table and chairs.
Two private bedrooms are located at one side of the boat. You will find a double bed in one room and two singles in the other. An impressive private bathroom also has all the usual amenities appealing to any land lover including a shower, sink and toilet.
Head up the stairs to the boat’s wheelhouse and enjoy mealtimes here for a change. Alternatively on warmer days you can enjoy a bottle of wine with your guests on the ship’s deck outside whilst watching the daily lively activities on the water.
The apartment is only a short walk from Central Station making it an ideal base for visitors travelling on business as well as leisure.
Perfectly located, the Montelbaan Houseboat Apartment is moored along one of the pretty canals close to Central Station. It lies just opposite the stunning Montelbaan Tower which was once famously painted by Rembrandt himself. You could barely ask for a more romantic setting.
The apartment is also only a short walk away from the wonderful Waterlooplein flea market where you can pick up all kinds of unusual items and some unique souvenirs of your visit to the city. Hold your ground when trying to haggle with the often grumpy stall holders.
Grab a hot chocolate or a cool Dutch beer at the famously leaning Cafe De Sluyswacht on nearby Jodenbreestraat. Its charming lop-sided exterior seems to constantly attract the attention of passing photographers. Inside this striking 17th century lock-keeper’s cottage it is snugly and warm in the winter months and sells reasonably priced drinks all year round. Meanwhile in the warmer months you might prefer to sit out on the charming terrace that overlooks your houseboat apartment.
A little further west from the apartment, but only an 8 minute walk away lies the city’s famous Red Light District. It is a fascinating area to explore at night when the streets really come to life and the neon lights reflect atmospherically in the water of the canals. Don’t be afraid to walk through this part of town, it is almost expected that all visitors will come and take a peek at least once during their stay. It is also a very safe area these days, if a little noisy.
There is no better way to experience Amsterdam then from this house boat. We stayed with two kids (10 and 8 year old) - there's a playground on the other side of the canal, not to mention nemo on walking distance, Carre theatre at a strolling distance and plenty of cool pubs for mum and dad to sneak to when the kids are asleep. Just sitting on the boat having a breakfast or a beer in the afternoon is in itself a treat! The people who own the boat are very friendly and helpful.erik - Date: 03-08-2015
