Nieuwmarkt-Waag Apartment 2

Nieuwmarkt-Waag Apartment 2 is a modern, bright and inviting 2-bedroom apartment, a peaceful retreat in a quiet street in the city centre of Amsterdam.

An elegant decor with wooden floors accentuate a strong sense of style and sophistication, this accommodation is
designed to make your stay in Amsterdam as comfortable as possible. High windows flood the apartment with light. In the living area you will find a large sofa and two armchairs, perfect for watching the provided flatscreen TV together and relaxing after a long day out exploring the city. Just off from the living room is the open plan fully equipped kitchen. Again fresh and white and practically designed, you can prepare your favourite meals easily here and enjoy them at the elegant dining table.

The two bedrooms are fitted with a double bed and an attractive wardrobe for storing all your clothes and essential travel items, you are sure to sleep comfortably here. The apartment has two private bathrooms with a shower, sink, bath and toilet. Baby beds and highchairs can be provided upon request.

Please note: This is a strictly no smoking apartment.

Location

From the living room you have a view on the Zuiderkerk (Southern Church), built between 1603 and 1611. Nowadays the church is in use for private and public events. To the north of the apartment Nieuwmarkt (New Market) surrounds a charming square and castle-like building called De Waag, nowadays a cafe restaurant, – also the name of the apartment. Daily markets are held in the square including sales of clothes, antiques and local farmers’ produce on Saturdays.

Just a few minutes away in Jodenbreestraat you will find the famous Rembrandt House Museum,
open daily from 10 am - 6 pm. As the name suggests, this is the house where Rembrandt lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. Rembrandt remained in Amsterdam nearby until his death in 1669. The house itself was purchased and opened as a museum and gallery of his etchings, drawings and paintings several hundred years later. With the help of the actual original auction list of his belongings historians have been able to piece together a reasonable replica of how the house would have looked at the time of Rembrandt’s residence.

On your way back to the apartment why not take a left turning half-way up the St Antoniesbreestraat under the spooky archway with the skull and cross bones insignia. This was originally once the graveyard of the beautiful Zuiderkerkhof, the Southern Church. Turn around and see an unusual and very much unexpected giant 5-story high waterfall on the side of a relatively new block of flats. It’s been there since the 1980s but remains one of Amsterdam’s little secrets.

The apartment was perfectly located for exploring the city in a quiet residential street but not far from the centre. The apartment was very well presented and I would highly recommend it. The staff at the offices were very pleasant and helpful.

Excellent apartment. In the middle of the centre, but quiet at the same time. I felt safe eventhough I was staying there on my own. Very good kitchen facilities and handy to have a washing machine as well. Really liked it that I could pick up the keys at Schiphol airport
